Mt. Wilson
Took a little drive along the Angeles Crest Highway this afternoon and watched the sunset. We went all the way up to the observatory, even though it's closed during the winter. The views alone were enough for me. This is the same area Donnie Darko (opening scene) was filmed. Hard to believe this is only about an hour from the city.

BAYVI USA Exhibits at ASR San Diego, BAYVI JAPAN joins the Team

BAYVI Exhibitor's Booth at Action Sports Retailers Show San Diego
Aloha everybody. We're back. And what a January it's been. From our debut exhibitor's appearance at
the ASR Trade Show in San Diego last weekend to a flurry of activity in the past month, we have a lot
we'd like to share with you.
Busy has been an understatement to describe this past Winter, with a great deal of our focus concentrated
on our cut & sew line, including the much-anticipated BAYVI Dimensional-Stretch Raptor-Series boardshorts
and BAYVI Outerwear programs.
This past Winter has seen the development of our new BAYVI Distribution Center, the addition of new
Teamriders to the Surf Team, and the growth of our brand from humble beginnings in Hawaii.

George putting some finishing touches on the New BAYVI Distribution Center.

Last week, the Owner of BAYVI JAPAN Mineto Ushikoshi flew in to pay the crew a visit. Ushi-san ("U4")
flew in with fellow Japan surfing icon Akira Shindo.
First night was a night of Japanese yakitori, angry-looking chefs, beer, sake, and some more beer. Don't
think that helped us the next morning with a 5AM wake-up call to drive down to San Diego. Oddly enough,
this pattern seemed to repeat itself for the remainder of the trip.

Day One: Setting-up, folding, unpacking, steaming, pressing, and "we need to buy more hangars."

Days Two through Four: The Loyal Crew. Many thanks to Mineto Ushikoshi for making the trip from Japan
and teamrider and star of the show Sev Smith, chumming the waters and drawing the crowds in. We now
affectionately call him, "Chum".

Active Ride Shop groms Mike and Jared.

Austin coming down for the show from Hawaii. Sev.

Every horse needs a carrot. And ours was Rincon. ASR break down, pack up, drive back, arrive back
late at 1230AM. Wake up at 330AM and drive up another 2 hours to Rincon. Right-hand point break,
long rights. With a spot like this, who won't be wide awake?

Post-Rincon Surf, pre-Denny's breakfast. Ushikoshi-san [featured center] was ripping on a custom shape
from Brice Surfboards. Click here for more information about Brice x BAYVI 6A Custom boards.
Tomohiro Soeda of Styl'n Surf speeding down the lines and [featured right] above.
Thanks again to everybody for their support through the years.
More teasers of our newest products and our new BAYVI Obama Limited Edition tee coming in the next
few days.
Check Back.

On the 5
Thee best thing (to me) about long drives are the soundtracks put together specifically for the selected route. 5 freeway, post-grapevine fogged out traffic madness, the playlist goes as follows: Titled: Drives on the 5 1. Self Taught Learner-Lissy Trullie 2. The Mountain-Pj Harvey 3. A Chain Of Flowers-The Cure 4. Hairy Trees-Goldfrapp 5. Through Your Eyes-Nina Kinert 6. My Love-Windy & Carl 7. Half-Whole-Frost 8. Boo-Pinback 9. Fade Into You-Mazzy Star (I had to) 10. Love Will Tear us Apart-Worm Is Green (Joy Division Cover) 11. Holy Dances-Beach House 12. Nada Surf-Blonde On Blonde 13. Chicago-Sufjan Stevens **Warning** Play loud, during the day and after a cup of coffee. May cause drowsiness.

Boardshort Teaser

The first-round prototypes of our BAYVI boardshort series have arrived, and we couldn't be more pleased.
Now we proceed to adjustments, land testing, water testing, development, and more testing. It's hard to
resist from showing you the entire series and a larger sample, but that would ruin the surprise wouldn't it?
Stay tuned.

Korean Tacos Anyone???
So I've been hearing stories about these amazing Korean tacos being sold out of this roach coach in Los Angeles and finally decided to get to the bottom of things. First of all, I've never eaten anything from a roach coach that could even remotely be called 'amazing' but the concept was definitely very interesting...I love Korean BBQ and I love tacos, add the two together, how can you go wrong?

First you have to go on their website and figure out where they're going to be. They're at a new location every night (actually they go to at least three locations every night). So we found out they were going to be in Silverlake between 6-8pm and when we got there we saw this HUGE line! They also had k-pop blashing on this little boombox in the truck.

So after waiting an hour outside in the freezing cold we get to order, only to wait in a second line to pick up the order! These tacos better be pretty damn good...

Finally got the food and I must say that they were pretty damn tasty. I would definitely recommend the experience to vistors and locals alike. They even have a vegan version of the taco. I recommend the Korean Short Rib tacos...would be awesome late night snack after the clubs. A special thanks to Roy Choi the Executive Chef/Co-founder who made the menu recommendations for us. This is such a great concept, they're going to make millions...wish I would have thought of it!

From the Ground Up
From day one, it's been about the 6A and building it from the ground up. It first started in Hawaii, and
now it continues to grow in Japan, the UK, and the West Coast. Keep an eye out for the BAYVI crews
going around at your local park, local break, or we may just stop you on the side of the street.
Free shirts and stickers could be your lucky day.

Khan Fischer, Taylor Crowder, Brandon Gayett, Craig Nipps, and the Arcadia, CA skatepark crew.
Welcome aboard.

Don't know if you saw this, but the sunsets the past few days have been pretty crazy. Pinks, yellows
and purples.

Happy New Year! Happy New Year!!! Hope everyone had a good night! We took the mellow route this year and just had dinner close to our apartment. Worked late yesterday and by the time we finished everything, there was only time to go home and change and leave to dinner. Caught a cab just to be safe, which ended up working out cause it didn't seem like there was any parking in the area. People were sleeping on the streets in their pajamas, pacing back and forth selling cotton candy, some even brought their own heating towers and bbq grills! This was all for the parade (the next day) by the way. We carefully navigated through the streets, found our way to the restaurant, had a nice dinner and caught a cab back home, only to work a little more and fall asleep. Hope you all had a night just as wonderful as I did. I wish the best for each and every one of you. Happy New Year & good luck in 2009!

Celebrity / BAYVI Japan: Kenji Sakaguchi Scores Surfer of the Year Award

Japan Celebrity / BAYVI Japan : Kenji Sakaguchi all smiles.
Merry Merry New Year's Eve everybody. It's 7:00 PM PST. In another 2 hours, you East Coasters will be
watching the ball drop. Then in another 3, you West Coasters will be watching the clock count down.
Then in another 2, the island of Hawaii will be covered in gunpowder as Hawaii welcomes the new year
in style, without a firework to spare.
It's time for 2009, and not a moment too late. George, Bruce, Leila, and I were sitting around the office
today talking about the upcoming year. Pretty damn excited to see what the new year brings. A lot of big
plans, new innovations, and new approaches are already in the works and will debut itself in due course.
I wish I could tell you already but that's like opening your Christmas present early on Christmas Eve.
08 has been a pretty strong reality check for America. Everybody sees it; hears it. You can't escape it.
But we look at it as a challenge and it's time we all dig deep and fight for what we all believe in,
for what we're passionate about, and what we love.
09 will be the year that defines us, our characters, and our actions. 09 will also be the year that defines
BAYVI. 09 is the year that we carry our dreams to fruition. We're well on our way.
Thank you to everybody who's been with us from day one. You know who you are. Thanks to all who
just came on board the 6A just yesterday. Welcome to the VI family. It's growing fast and we grow
stronger by the day. We've been doing it thanks to everybody's support, and together we shall
continue to grow, to proceed, and to progress.

Speaking of dreams, we're more than stoked on the recent news of Kenji Sakaguchi winning 2008 Surfer
of the Year Award. For those of you who don't who Kenji Sakaguchi is, just imagine if someone
genetically combined the Brad Pitt of Acting with the Taylor Knox of Surfing into a Japanese baby.
Kenji has become one of the powerhouses behind BAYVI Japan. You see him in movies, then you go
watch him in the water and he plain rips.

Celebration time.

Part of the BAYVI Japan contingent: Kenji Sakaguchi with former JPSA Grand Champ Minetou Ushikoshi,
or by his nicknames "Ushi" or "U4" (Ushi = U-shi = U 4)
Mahalos to Ushi-san for the photos.
Happy New Year everybody,
Be Merry. Drive safe. Stay warm.
2009 Here we come.
