Blog Post by Minetou Ushikoshi : Recent travels to Bali, Hawaii, and back to Japan :
We'd like to begin today's daily read with some recent submissions by Minetou Ushikoshi, head of BAYVI
Japan. Ushi's been on the road quite a bit these days, collecting his flyer miles and airplane peanuts. By
the way, can you believe there is an airline now that is charging $1.50 to use the restroom aboard the plane?
Tangents aside, we hope your week is going well wherever you may be.
We received this photo from Ushi last night.
Bali, Indonesia. Wow. Imagine having a wave like that with one friend?

NEW BAYVI Boardshorts!!! BAYVI EXPLORER Boardshorts Sneak Peak
Getting ready to debut in 12 days, first released to 6A_members. Not a 6A_member? Sign up here.
Stay tuned:
Our good friends at Asita Recordings never cease to amaze. The characteristics of passionate
individuals are fascinating. It's the very reason why we started BAYVI. It's what drives our 'getting back
to BAYVI' theme, it's what drives the very core truths of our brand, and it's what drives who we are as
beings.
Artists Joe Dub, Lauren, and the folks at Asita Recordings epitomize an uncompromising dedication
towards passion. Whether they realize it or not, they are the very people who breathe their passions,
they think it, they feel it, and they dream it. And in turn, they inspire others around them to do the same.
Asita Recordings with Cali Classics, has now released Ellay Khule -Rifleman b/w Knuckle Sandwich
on vinyl. (Album Cover shown below). For $6, we suggest you help support.
About the Artist:
Ellay Khule first honed his skills in the late eighties, at The Good
Life Cafe, a South Central LA based
open-mic workshop and healthfood
store. He is also an original member of the highly regarded Project
Blowed crew.Other renowned Project Blowed artists and groups include
Freestyle Fellowship, Abstract
Rude, Jurassic 5, Busdriver and 2Mex,
among others. Khule is credited with coining the term “Chop-Hop,”
a fast-tongue, machine gun style of rap pioneered and collectively used by
Project Blowed emcees.
Khule is featured in “This is the Life,” a feature-length documentary
by Ava DuVernay that explores the
racial, social and musical
implications of The Good Life Cafe, where Khule and crew literally held
court
through the early '90s. The film was named “Best Documentary” at
the 2008 Los Angeles Pan-African
Film Festival.
From about a month ago, in March. Took an hour drive up to the mountains, just to get away from the
city for a second. It was a nice change of pace. Made a few snowballs, sloshed around in the snow and
watched the little kiddies slide down the hills with their sleds. 'Twas a good day.

Arcade BBQ Pt II
A week or so ago, we went over to our friend's house for a BBQ. Same BBQ as last year, where Ron
dominated in old school Track And Field on Paul's arcade (the dominated part was a joke by the way).
It was a nice night and we were able to see old friends and meet a few new ones. Seemed like a lot of
people we met, were from Hawaii. Somewhat of a comforting feeling, and plus, you can talk about things
like fried rice and Zippys and reminisce about cruising Alas and Hawaiian Brians and they won't think
you're crazy.
Anyway, thanks Aaron and Paul for the invite! Hopefully see you guys again soon.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Endless Boundaries
Came across these photos of Shannon Rankin's art recently. It's so inspiring to see creative minds make
such great use of such a simple commodity--transforming the commonplace into meaningful. From the
creator herself, "While bearing traces of the original form, I deconstruct maps to create new geographies,
suggesting the potential for a broader landscape."

'VI' Standards of Quality
I am a perfectionist. It has taken years to finally admit this, but here it is: I am a perfectionist. Sloppy
ding repair jobs on my board drive me crazy. I prefer/must have the toilet paper roll from the top. I even
used to sort my baseball cards in the same order as the Beckett baseball guide when I was a kid.
It can be an endless obsession, really. Primarily because I've somehow rationalized it in my brain as a
constant search for progression. A discovery of our fundamental truths. The way I look at it, it's about
doing things right and never being satisfied with the status-quo: 'Why is this happening?' 'How can things
be done better?' 'Why are we thinking like this and how can we think outside the great box we're confined
to?'
When it comes to a search for progression, BAYVI, by all means, is no exception. The quality standards
we impose on every shirt, hat, wallet, or boardshort that leaves the design and production rooms are
admittedly demanding. Every stitch color, count, and thread type is examined with scrutiny. It's the same
focus on quality that we've instilled into this brand since the first day we started six years ago.
The yet-to-be-released BAYVI 'Green Room' Tee, (releasing next week), with cotton BAYVI hangtags.
Every touchpoint you have with our product is an interaction you have
with BAYVI--in some way, shape,
or form. Six years ago, with the help of a wonderful team and support
structure, we founded this brand
based on a single principle: passion. It's this same passion that
still drives every design decision and
production run today.
The way we look at, the product that we make represents our identity and who we are. Every single
product. Every thread, every ink change, and every tag symbolizes what we're all fighting for. You, your
fellow 6A co-members, we at the BAYVI rooms, the team in the water and at the parks, and all of us:
fighting together, regardless of background or what region you represent.
By far, the biggest reason we have a great product is because of you. You constantly email us with your
feedback. You send us photos of you wearing it and give us your recommendations. And from those
recommendations, we've adjusted sleeve lengths, fits, and styles to better match our bodies.
Have you worn a BAYVI tee lately? Let us know your feedback here at:

Our new tees have progressed further: namely, they are now 100% custom. We start with the fabric roll,
do our own colors, softening, and treatments to the fabric, we run our own measurements and specs and
stitch the shirts together from scratch. Piece by piece. We take a lot of pride in the fact that a lot of passion
goes into each and every piece that you wear. It's always been like that and it always will be.
So let us know your feedback and we can incorporate your changes in our future runs to make your
perfect tee.
Because just maybe...we are all perfectionists in our own right.

Goodbye, Winter.
Spring is almost here! The cherry blossoms are blooming, the weather is warming up to 83 degrees,
and the streets are filled with happy faces, short skirts and little kiddies w/ ice cream cones in hand.
Been a while since i've updated. Just wanted to drop in and say hello and have a good remainder of the
