BAYVI Ando Hoodie Now Released to 6A Members

010_2.jpg
The BAYVI Ando Hoodie has arrived in limited quantities.  First release begins now to BAYVI 6A members.

We've been receiving a few questions as to how we decided on the name, "Ando", for this custom outwear
project.  The clean lines behind this sweatshirt were inspired by the architectural aesthetics and workings
of Japanese architect, Ando, who we believe has an amazing sense and use of space.  It may sound
odd to say that a hoodie was inspired by a house, but a connection still exists.  We like to think of it as a
tribute to those with an appreciation for balanced and clean design, regardless of field.

The making of the Ando Hoodie was a 3 month project, and needless to say, many days and countless
nights were poured into this.  We were holding onto the initial sketches of this hoodie for quite some time,
and as you can imagine, we were more than anxious at the chance to put this into reality.  Clean lines for
a timeless look.  You'll see this consistent theme of clean space carried through every detail of our piece.

010_1.jpg

3/4" contrast hood ribbing, 1/2" folded-end drawcords.  All measurement specifications and stitches
custom drawn and crafted from scratch.  Upper breast and back fabric contrast.  Offset color lining with
matching zipper pulls.  And custom BAYVI metal rivets and quality YKK zippers to give it the extra class.

All material was put through our vintage wash processes.  In other words, it's soft.  But best of all, wait
until you try it on.  Please enjoy the BAYVI ANDO Hoodie.

Product release begins now, with priority to BAYVI 6A members.

One Way Boardshop by Sev Smith

Surf teamrider and Sales Agent Sev Smith has had the fine pleasure of meeting great people throughout
towns in California.  In particular:  San Luis Obispo.

Sev sent us a few photos from his latest journeys, of which we'd like to post up and share with you.
Here is his post below:  Thanks Sev!!!

------
One Way Boardshop : San Luis Obispo.  by Sev Smith:
Some shops just sell gear, then there's those shops who sell gear and Do Things.  By that I mean:  they
believe in what they repesent, what they offer, what they promote, what they stand for, and what we stand
for:  the BAYVI.  I got a chance to meet some of the fine crew at one of these proactive shops.  Ladies and
gentlemen, I'd like to introduce the crew of One Way Boardshop.

012_1.jpg
Todd, Lexi, and Robbie of One Way Boardshop in San Luis Obispo.

The crew at One Way embodies a specific love for core boardriding that we live for.  Being a proactive and
supportive shop, One Way hold events for surfers, skaters, and snowboarders.  Examples include the
Snowboard Rail Jams where they bring in the snow to their lots, to Pro-Am skate contests at the local
park, to the sponsorship of the Cal Poly Surf Team this year to help them compete in the NSSA College
Division.

Many thanks go to the crew, Todd, Lexi, and Robbie.  Check them out and support.

Tokyo Rainbows

Rainbows are a trippy phenomenon.  (Especially when you see them in places you least expect:  like the
photos below, submitted by Gary in Tokyo).  Sunlight passes through water droplets in the sky, and each
drop of water bends incoming light into a prismatic array of Roy G. Biv.  It's a tangible, viewable
representation of the refraction of light as viewed by our naked eye.

What is it about the principles of 'bending' that attract us to rainbows?  What makes rainbows pleasant?
Is it the colors?  The fact that it is perfection that can never be physically reached?  Or if you really think
about it, could it be the concept of a fleeting essence of beauty, similar to the Japanese Cherry Blossoms?

011_1.jpg
Tokyo Rainbows.  Photo submitted by Gary Peterson.

Perhaps the concept of bending waves is not too foreign of a concept for surfers.  After all, surfers sit in
the lineup and examine every potential wave that the Pacific Ocean sends.  Surfers watch wavesbend,
bowl, double up, and bend again.

011_2.jpg
Tokyo Skylines.  Photo submitted this week by Gary Peterson.

If light can be bent, how about our other senses?  Can sound be bent?  Listen to an ambulance pass you
by on the street and we think it can.  The sound of the siren on the approaching ambulance is at a higher
frequency than the sound of the siren as it travels away from you, thanks to that thing known as the
Doppler Effect.

What about taste, smell, and touch?
Imagine a taste that could bend, and what would it taste like?  We might be close to the manifestation of
the Everlasting Gobstopper straight out of Willy Wonka, changing flavors from Rotisserie Chicken to
Cotton Candy with each layer.

Bending.  Isn't it amazing how an action so subtle can make such an impact.

And the way we like to look at it, the same applies to everything.  By that, we mean:  every subtle detail
matters.  For BAYVI, it means the slightest touch or difference can set the mood for an entire piece, or
tee or sweatshirt or even a pair of boardshorts for that matter.

That's what we like to think about.  And with each design, we hope to create an impact with you on
every piece we create.

Happy Tuesday.

BAYVI ANDO HOODIE:  SNEAK PREVIEW

Good morning to the 6A crew.
Fall is officially here and the nights are getting a bit colder.  If you've been watching the MLB postseason
games on TV, or the football games this weekend, I don't think the word 'cold' can quite characterize the
temperaturates of the midwest and northeast.  How about the word 'freezing' instead?  Please take care.

Speaking of cold nights and warmer clothes, we've been quite busy as we prepare to unveil the new BAYVI
hooded sweatshirt collection.  To start things off, we'll be releasing the first of the collection, the BAYVI
ANDO hoodie.  We only have a limited amount made, and 6A members will have first priority and first
purchase time-slots to buy pre-release.

The ANDO hoodie will be unveiled later this week.  Stay tuned.  Here's a sneak preview shot for you:

Kenji Sakaguchi and Minetou Ushikoshi:  BAYVI Japan Trade Show:  Interstyle

Good morning to the crew.  Is it just me, or did the temperatures in California just take an elevator drop
from incredibly hot 109 degree days to cold 54 nights in a matter of 2 days?  Yet another reminder
that Winter is fast approaching and the times of a 4/3 wetsuit and shorter daylight hours are upon us.
For those in Hawaii, you might even need a light rashguard on those "cold" mornings...Ahh paradise.

Let's start this morning with a few photos of BAYVI Japan represeting the VI at the Interstyle Trade Show in
Yokohama:

The Continuous Cycles of Change

As the saying goes, "The only constant is change."
Apparel design and production is no exception.

Every 3 months, the BAYVI brain rooms our given the task to create a completely new apparel
line.  No re-runs, no carryovers; New, new, new.  To achieve this goal, it really becomes an exciting, daily
collaboration.  Every day the crew goes to work.  And each day, a new design is sketched, tweaked,
destroyed, and created.  Out of 100 submissions every season, 27 will make the final cut.

The idea gets drawn, created, scanned, photographed, and printed in one room while emulsion is mixed
and set onto a delicate mesh screen in another.  The design gets transferred onto film transparencies,
placed onto a wet emulsion screen, the emulsion is hardened by a UV lightbox, the wet emulsion is washed
away, and the screen sits in the sun to dry.  Repeat for each color.  Mix the inks.

In the meantime, fabric rolls are bought.  Specs are made and templates are drawn.  Fabric is cut for each
shirt:  Front panel, back panel, left sleeve and right sleeve.  Every BAYVI fabric gets hand-treated and put
through our vintage process for that soft feel that we stand by.  No two shirts the same.  Fabric is brought
in-house and then screened with the newly mixed inks and freshly-made screens.  After printing, each tee
then gets stitched together and put through another vintage treatment.  At the end of the line, you have a
product that represents more than just a graphic tee.  It represents a code of values that we stand for.
It repesents everything that is BAYVI.  From our 6A to our family to the community that supports and makes
this all happen, each and every product encompasses the passions that we live for.

Each run gets made once.  Each design is made limited as part of the Limited.VI Collection.  After its made,
the screens are cleaned, washed up, and the product that was made is no longer available.  Each tee
hand-packed by one of us here at the Distribution Center.  Each graphic designed with a telling story to convey.

007_1.jpg
The King Kamehameha tee screen:  Cleaned up, reclaimed, and no longer available.

As I type this, I look outside and notice that it's getting darker earlier these days.  A subtle reminder that
Winter approaches.  With Winter comes a new apparel collection.  A new set of pieces that we look
forward to creating and working with you on.  For design ideas, feedback, or design submissions, contact
us as This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

BAYVI Japan's Minetou Ushikoshi Advances in Japan

Chief of the Japan contingent, Minetou Ushikoshi is quite busy this week as he has entered the Billabong
Pro in Tsurigasaki, a WQS 4-star event and one of the primary events of the Japan surfing tour.  Surfers
are treated this week to 4-6 feet of solid waves:  a perfect forum to showcase power and waveriding ability.

Congratulations go out to Ushi-san as he advances through, awarded 1st place in the first round, and
recently posting another 1st place to advance yet again.  Best of luck goes to Ushi-san.

Go BAYVI.

Mini Plate Lunch

lnl.jpg
I can't believe we had an L&L Hawaiian BBQ right around the corner from our place this whole time and
haven't gone there till today! I don't know why I always get the hamburger steak w/ all fries & gravy all over,
but I do, EVERY time, ever since I was little. Taste a little different here, but still reminds me of home.
