Good morning to the 6A. Is it just me, or has this week/month been unusually busy? Talk about a period
of deadlines and meetings! Now we're definitely in need of a surf! Hope all is well with everybody.
Amidst the chaos of work, TeamVI wonderman Kainoa Haas has been quite the media-magnet lately. From
Surfline to Heavywater to Surfer's Village to his most recent feature in USA Today.
A mang in the making: 2007. Kainoa ready for adulthood.
Whatever the case may be, it's an honor to watch this guy progress. From the very first day we added him
to the BAYVI Surf Team when he was a mere 13 year old mang.
Congrats on the latest coverage Kainoa,
let the good times roll....
Sorry for the lack of posts, lately. We've been tied up, putting the finishing touches on Holiday 2010 and
starting on Spring 2010! We're really excited about both lines btw. We'll keep you informed on the progress.
Thanks again for all the support! Much love & aloha.

Marlin Anyone?
Good morning everybody. Hope you all had a great weekend.
Catching marlin is crazy enough.
What about catching marlin bare-handed?
What about catching marlin from a helicopter?
What about catching marlin by jumping out of a helicopter?
Good morning everybody. How is the 6A? Hope everybody has been doing well. Talk about a busy week!
Japan and the UK have been busy with their new shipments of BAYVI Apparel, Hawaii has been in full gear
with the HSA State Championships and NSSAs, California has been full of skate contests, marketing hunts,
and our BAYVI Distribution Center has been in full swing preparing the release of the new line.
So I just returned back to the BAYVI offices this morning, and there was a package waiting from BAYVI 6A
member Kali Alexander. You guys in the 6A are the livelihood of this brand. The whole concept of BAYVI
is that of a personal family. Together, we shape the future of the VI. 6A members have sent us surf photos,
skate photos, music CD's, art work, sketches, and feedback. And Kali just delivered a touch of aloha.
This literally made our day.
Thank you Kali, from all of us.

The Clock Clock by humans since 1982
Creative and original design is always inspiring. Stumbled across these photos and wanted to share
them with the 6A. Talk about thinking outside the box.
Below is a project created by design students at HDK Goteburg in Sweden, who call themselves,
"humans since 1982." Here is their wall clock, cleverly titled, "The Clock Clock".
It's a 24 hour moving alarm clock displaying time in a digital manner.
For a quickened video to see the Clock Clock in action from 1:20 - 1:30, click the video below:

BAYVI's Sev Smith Featured in Surfer's Path
BAYVI Surf Teamrider Sev Smith is one of those rare guys you don't have the chance of meeting too often.
His work ethic is unreal, his energy and passion is contagious, and he's a man who goes after what he
wants and deserves the best of things coming his way.
Many congratulations to Sev Smith on his recent feature in the latest issue of Surfer's Path.
Sev scored some sick waves on his recent trip to Indonesia with Sam George and the crew, in a showcase
of surf journalism at its finest. These photos made our day. Makes me want to get off this computer and
book a ticket to Indo right now. Congrats Sev!
Enjoy.

I know there are a million videos out there, but you come across one every once in a while that really capture
your imagination. This is one of them. Here is a quick clip that was kindly forwarded to us from BAYVI 6A

Hawaii Day FIVE
After a fun event the night before at Dave and Busters, we were greeted to the dawn of Day Five with
variable winds. Word on the street was a small south pulse was sneaking in under the radar of many of
the published surf reports, and it was time to get our surf on.
BAYVI Japan's Ushishoki and Kenji-san were amping to surf. So was the entire BAYVI Hawaii surf team.
Ushi raced to the airport to pick up our new guest from Japan, I drove over and picked up the Pendleton
brothers, Kaz was calling the guys, and the hunt for a spot began.
Variable winds on the south shore can always make things a bit tricky. Some spots can be so fun one hour
that you'll want to scream like a little girl, but then become so sloppy the next hour you'll want to scream like
a frustrated madman. We checked the normal town spots of Kaisers, Bowls, Rockpiles, Kewalos, the Beach
Park...seemed like the longer we waited the sloppier everything got. (Do you ever notice it is always harder
to agree on a surf spot when so many people are involved? haha)
Running out of options, we made the call on a last-ditch effort to go for a drive. No expectations, take the
risk, and travel off the beaten path. Sometimes you find worse waves, and sometimes you score. And this
day, we found a nice little gem grabbing the south pulses in the right direction. We scored. Out of respect,
this spot will remain undisclosed.

There's just something about grabbing a good meal with everybody after surfing. 'Who got what wave', 'who
snaked who', 'who barneyed what', 'who saw who': are all questions that come up in the natural dialogue of
the ritualistic post-surf meal, shared and understood by surfers worldwide regardless of origin.
For our post-surf meal, it was off to Fort Ruger Market in Kapahulu. Fort Ruger's a true mom-and-pop shop,
tucked away in a residential community, and home to some of the best ahi poke on the island.
Kondo-san, Kenji, and Ushi. Menu-eyes.
Pringles was only the beginning of Alex's food rampage...I never seen a kid eat so much until this day.
Next, the guys from SURF TRIP JOURNAL JAPAN came in, and it was time to focus on a feature
showcasing Hawaii through the eyes of BAYVI Japan's Ushi and Kenji, and through the eyes of your
everyday locals. Mike Kays was able to pull a few strings and he got us a visit to air force base to
the
HICKAM SKATE HANGAR.
When we arrived, BAYVI's Brandon Kays was working the shop, but recovering from his broken ankle.
Get well Brandon!
Hickam Skate Hangar, Oahu, Hawaii.
Kenji checking out the bowl.
Justin putting on a little demo for SURF TRIP JOURNAL magazine, Japan.
Hickam's BDK's Skate Shack has one of the most impressive vintage and retro skateboard collections
you'll find. Old school Town&Country boards.
This is Part 5 of a 6 part series. Stay tuned for Hawaii Day Six to follow.
Aloha.

Hawaii Day FOUR
Day Four.
Kaz and I spent most of day four putting in a hard day's worth of work: sales meetings and more
sales meetings. But hard work is always worth it when you get to follow it with your very own carrot: the
BAYVI team party.
We've been on the road travelling so much these days that we were looking forward to seeing the BAYVI
family together and united. The BAYVI Japan guys still had a few rogue riders they had yet to meet, and I
still wanted to make good on my promise that we'd have a celebratory dinner when Kainoa won his first
contest. So add all these reasons together, and you got a fun night ahead.
We rented out the downstairs pool tables and shuffleboard section of the Honolulu Dave & Busters and kept
the bar-burgers, spicy buffalo wings, chicken tenders, and fluids flowing. Then we opened the cages, and let
the wild animals loose.
BAYVI Hawaii + BAYVI Japan
Did we say wild animals? Mr. surf-terror Alex Pendleton getting his grub on thanks to Nicole!
Aaron Sunshine Lee with the form and finesse of a champion. Look at that concentration.
BAYVI Japan and Surf Champ Minetou Ushikoshi, BAYVI Hawaii Mgr Kaz Sano, and BAYVI Japan and
Celebrity Actor Kenji Sakaguchi.
Vince, Rob PK Waldron, Sunshine, and Sunshine's g/f.
Yuichi, Genta, and Shu. Bar Burgers?
Teamrider Chrispy and shaping specialist/teamrider Brice Yamashita.
Kaz, BAYVI rider Hana Harrison and friends.
Riders Gregg G_Naks Nakamura, and up and coming ripper Cole Yamakawa.
Kenji Sakaguchi and Nick Mita.

Hawaii Day THREE : North Shore
Hawaii. Day three. Been starting to notice that bright and early starts have been a prevailing theme so far
this trip, with today's early start of 6AM no exception. I get the morning call from Ushi-san and Kenji-san,
who are already packing their boards and getting ready to make the drive up to country. A late-season NW
swell is starting to peak on the North Shore at 6-8 feet with occasional plus sets (Hawaiian scale), and
Velzyland is the morning call.
The heads of BAYVI Japan, (Ushikoshi-san and Kenji-san), are here with a Japan film crew, dying to get
some shots for the Japan surf mags. I pull out my old 6'4" thumb-tail Tokoro from under the house. Only
had a chance to ride this board a few times, but this board is so fun and so sick. The waves in Cali this
winter never really gotten big enough where
I needed to use a 6'4" board, so this board has been left in
Hawaii, and super excited to give it a go. BAYVI Teamrider Chris Pendleton has somehow managed to
convince his parents to let him take a
day off of school for the photo shoot, so I drive over to his
apartment
complex by the Ala Wai Boat Harbor in town and off we go.
The drive up to North Shore always ranks as one of my favorite drives. You pass Schofield Barracks and
break away into the open fields and skies. Scents of dirt, fresh-cut pineapple, and decayed pineapple all
mixed into one distinct aroma fill your lungs, and you start to make the descent into Haleiwa. After you
pass the coffee fields (to the right and left of this photo), you see the ocean and get your first true glimpse
on how big the waves are by where the whitewater lies. Here's a shot from that morning, driving down
to Haleiwa, North Shore.
It was good catching up and joking around with Chris. It's always nice to be able to sit down with
somebody in person and get caught up on how somebody's been. Definitely something more than weekly
phone calls can accomplish.
Ushikoshi green-room. Photo credit : Kamio.
Surf was crowded, but fun. Kaz met us up at V-land and got some sick shots, Chris scored a sick barrel
right in front of the camera, Kenji-san caught some bombs, and Ushi-san was surfing with the speed,
power, and effortless fluidity of a former JPSA Grand champ.
Post-surf session followed by food. Seems like everybody's craving Stortos these days! After all, it's the
perfect post-surf sandwich only found on the North Shore. From left to right, BAYVI Hawaii Man Kaz Sano,
Kenji's manager Mukoyama, BAYVI teamrider and resident comedian Chris Pendleton, BAYVI Japan
surfer, actor, and celebrity Kenji Sakaguchi, BAYVI Japan grand champ Minetou Ushikoshi, and legendary
Japan surf photog Kondo-san.
Parting shot.
Afterwards, the Japan guys went for a round II of surfing, Chris had homework to do, and Kaz and I had
another round of meetings for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Looking forward to tomorrow, for the
BAYVI party and gathering.
This is part 3 of a Six-Part Series. Stay tuned for Days Four through Six.
Aloha.
