My new board

There's just something about getting a brand new board.  I'm not sure if it's the fresh smell of the cured
resin or the white dust that shakes off it like a powdered christmas tree.  Maybe it's just the feel of the
board under your arm as you say hello to your new friend.

I find it fascinating how a white blank of memory foam can be scuplted into a vessel of freedom.  How
many memories await you?  How many bottom turns?  Off the lips?  And maybe on a lucky
day--an open barrel will this board provide?

Getting a new board is a ritualistic experience all in itself.  It reminds me of when I was small and was
lucky enough to score a pack of Upper Deck baseball cards.  You carefully peel back the foil wrapping.
You cherish each moment like Charlie would a chocolate bar.

The new board ritual begins:

You stare, you hold, and you examine.
Do you spray artwork or do you leave it clean?
If you spray artwork, do you block paint with masking tape or dishwashing liquid?
What stickers will you put and where do you position them?
Apply deckpad, and begin your first criss-cross patterns of wax.
Attach fins, attach leash cord, leash.

BAYVI Teamrider Brice Yamashita has shaped a magic board for me.  Turns on a dime, rails are tapered
just right, and I had a chance to bring it to California on our recent trip back to Hawaii.

Many thanks go to Brice and Brice Surfboards for their fine craftsmanship.  It's been an honor to have Brice
as part of the BAYVI family, and it's inspiring to see people dedicated to their passions.  Passion is the
fundamental reason why we started BAYVI, and it will always permeate through every experience you have
with us.

I get to meet Shawn (BAYVI Texas Manager) on Saturday.  It's been a busy few weeks and getting excited
at a chance to surf on my new Brice Surfboard in Newport to catch the incoming NW swell.

How do you prepare your board?
Send in your board artwork photos and let's get it posted up.

Welcome 2010  :  Bryan Dickerson  :  San Francisco, CA

2010.  A new era, and a new decade.  Happy New Year to the 6A.  How was everybody's New Years?

I'd like to start off this new year with a photo I personally love:  Every once in a while, you come across
a great photo that has the ability to captivate your imagination.  A photo so powerful that mere mental
imagery can activate your sensory points of sight, touch, smell, sound, and taste.

Stare at the photo long enough and start to imagine what it would be like to be that guy.  The sight of the
almond-shaped tube cascading over your body, the feel of the cold San Francisco air against your face,
the smell of the salt-laden air through your nose, the sudden muffling of sound as you enter your own
private tunnel, and the taste of the cold salty air as your ride over the foamball and out of the barrel.

Our friend Bryan Dickerson was lucky enough to be that guy.  Bryan runs a great website named Surfers
Village, a tremendous authority on all news related to surfing.  Check out SurfersVillage here .  Paul
Ferraris is the magician behind the lens who captured this shot.  A great shot with great timing. Check
out Paul Ferraris's website here .

BAYVI 6A Member Mailouts On Their Way Out

Happy early New Years everybody.  How is everybody's holidays going so far?  Can you believe in two
more days we enter a new decade?

I'm especially looking forward to a refreshing 2010.  It's been quite a year for many, and 2010 marks a new
decade, a fresh start, and a new perspective for a new generation.  Let's go.

To get things ready to start the new year, we've been spending the past week and nights sending out the
6A member mailouts.

To all 6A members who have joined the 6A , check your mail, because you're in for a treat!

Enjoy:

BAYVI 6A Member  :  Mission Viejo, CA  :  Matt Miyamoto

Yesterday, BAYVI 6A Member Matt Miyamoto had a chance to snap this photo before suiting up and
paddling out.  Stoked to receive his photos, as he's rocking the new BAYVI Brice Tee and a Brice
Surfboard
out in Mission Viejo, CA.

Thanks for the photo from the Miyamoto family.  I keep staring at that A-frame beach break right behind
him.  Must have caught a few sick ones.  Makes me want to surf, like, now.

I like saxaphones.  Leila says I have an old-fashioned heart.  I tend to agree.
Merry XMAS Eve.  Enjoy:
