Cole Yamakawa Video

One of our youngest BAYVI teamriders:  Cole Yamakawa, age 14.

I remember first seeing Cole out in the water at Ala Moana Beach park when he was but 11.  Always
smiling.  That's Cole.  It could be 1 foot, knee-high, and blown out, and the kid's still grinning from ear
to ear, having the time of his life.  It's guys like Cole that remind you of why we started surfing in the
first place.  We could use a few more Cole's in the lineup.

But don't let that smile fool you.  He's got a relentless drive for progression.  It is his passion that he
exudes day in and day out that is simply inspiring.

And that is the very reason why he's a part of BAYVI.  Enjoy his video montage he put together.

Gopal Butler:  Maneuvering in Critical Territory

Good afternoon everybody.  Yesterday, I received an email from BAYVI Teamrider Gopal Butler as he sent
this photo on over to us.  I love this shot and I wanted to share it with you, our readers.

We have a ton of amazing photos of Gopal.  Some of my favorites include photos by Nash Witten at Sunset
and candid shots of Gopal by Rob Hudson.

While this photo is set to a cloudy backdrop with less-than-ideal lighting situations for the day, the reason I
like this photo is the content itself.  It speaks volumes about Gopal's character.

What you don't see in this photo is the shallow 6 inches of sharp reef he's hovering over.  While most would
either kick out, run to the shoulder and do a roundhouse, or go for a traditional snap in a safer region three
feet to his right, Gopal feels compelled to attack the lip in its most critical section:  a fins-out tail-release snap
in the curl of the wave, all while hovering over a shallow shelf of skin-cutting reef.

That's Gopal.  And that's why I like this photo.

From Texas  :  Shawn Swanson

Here are a couple of pics from today!  Waves weren't that good: waist to chest with a 30mph heavy east
wind but still scored a couple.  We are expecting some killer waves tomorrow.  Should be head high with
light off shore winds, we'll see.

Talk to you later...

I thought i'd start the year off right, so I took the ski and a friend out this past Saturday to try and find some
little waves. The surf was small but we ended up exploring a sea cave and hanging out with "The Hoff"
himself. Wear BAYVI and get all the babes, like David!  Happy New Year, everyone.

TeamVI:  Lyon Farrell

Many congratulations are due to our man Lyon.  10 Year-Old Lyon has taught us that you can never
estimate the strength of a person's ambition by his size.  Lyon has been hustling, practicing, training, and
pushing himself as he improves his skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing.  It's what he's passionate
about, it's what he's dedicated to, and it's refreshing to see how much this kid inspires us all to push that
much harder in each of our own disciplines.

Many congratulations are due to Lyon for his recent accomplishments which include:

Concrete Wave Magazine Vol 8 2009
1st Place (11-13 year old division) Aloha Stadium 2009
2nd Place (17 + division) Maui 2009

and importantly,
2 National Titles at the New Zealand Snowboard Nationals:  Slopestyle and Halfpipe!!

Congrats Lyon!!!

TeamVI:  Chris Pendleton Scores Surfer Mag's Photo of the Month

Last night, we received an email from our good friend Nick Mita with the subject: 'Check yo Rider' and
a link to www.surfermag.com.

What a pleasant surprise to see BAYVI Teamrider:  Chris Pendleton score Surfer Magazine's winning shot
for their Photo of the Month contest.  This is one of our favorite photos of Chris, and what a great photo
and hard work put in by Kaz Sano of NovusSwell.com to capture the moment.

Congratulations to Chris P and Kaz of NovusSwell for a job well done!
Thanks to Nick for the heads up and thanks to SurferMag.com for the love!

BAYVI Team Blog : Gregg Nakamura

I've always enjoyed watching Gregg surf.  I still remember the first time I surfed with Gregg and
our friend Chad at a lowkey spot south of Diamond Head years ago.  Talk about the basics, this guy
had them down pat.  He exemplifies a surfing regimen of power, discipline, and a smooth fluidity
you don't find too often in surfers nowadays.

Perhaps one of the best things I appreciate about Gregg's surfing is how he can combine raw power
with a smooth style of speed and well-drawn lines.  From 1 foot Diamond-Head to 15 foot Teahupoo,
the guy seems to be just as hungry on every wave.  And that's why he represents the BAYVI Team.

On a last note, Gregg is probably the most competitive animal I've ever met.  If you've gone heads up
in a game of poker with the guy and witnessed his famous poker death-stare, you'll know what I'm
referring to.  I'll be seeing him next month, and look forward to earning my chips.

Here's a video of Gregg, edited and presented by Mr. G-Naks himself:
Look closely, and you might spy a quick sneak clip of Team.VI Gopal Butler as well.

Happy Monday.
